Good Article in the Harrow Observer this month..
Is Harrow's music scene becoming the liverpool of the 60's Feb 7 2008 by Tara Brady
SOMETHING is brewing in the borough. First homegrown star Kate Nash became one of the biggest breakthrough acts of 2007 and now Harrow and Eastcote-born band Scouting for Girls are top of the charts with their debut album.
With a clutch of other bands about to hit the big time, is it possible Harrow's music scene is about to rival that of Liverpool in the 60s and Manchester in the early 90s?
Pop-rockers, Scouting for Girls, have been top of the UK album charts with their self-titled debut album for two weeks.
The trio, whose hits include She's So Lovely and Elvis Ain't Dead, grew up in and around the borough and like singer-songwriter Kate Nash, began gigging at popular music venue The Trinity in Station Road.
"We started fixing up gigs at our local pub, The Trinity. We used to get our friends and family down and sell CDs. We even put on a night there which people use to pop along to.
"Just before Christmas we played a secret gig at The Trinity which was really good. It is wicked place to hang out or play because it is just like a little bit of Camden which has been dropped into Harrow."
Yet it appears Scouting for Girls success is just the tip of the iceberg for Harrow's musical success. Last summer, singing sensation Kate Nash held the number one slot with her debut album Made of Bricks.
And according to Chris Perdue, manager of The Trinity, there is plenty more to come. He said: "Harrow has one of the biggest music scenes in the country at the moment. There are three or four bands which I think people should be looking out for this year.
"The Natives, The Baskervilles and 12 Dirty Bullets regularly play The Trinity and are really popular. We also have a lot of bands coming to play from all over London putting Harrow well and truly on the music map.
"You never know what good bands you might be lucky enough to catch here at The Trinity."
